This is part of a series that allows young readers to enter into so far ancient civilizations of the world and learn a bit more about these cultures than history is nearly ever given a chance to。 What a refreshing way to finally get children to want to learn more about their ancestors。 Like the other books in this series this one explores for the first few chapters the history of the Chinese dynasties。 Unfortunately and I know that it is a lot of history to cover it felt rushed a bit while also This is part of a series that allows young readers to enter into so far ancient civilizations of the world and learn a bit more about these cultures than history is nearly ever given a chance to。 What a refreshing way to finally get children to want to learn more about their ancestors。 Like the other books in this series this one explores for the first few chapters the history of the Chinese dynasties。 Unfortunately and I know that it is a lot of history to cover it felt rushed a bit while also not quite as complete as the others。 Also at the same time there are no educational extras to get the children to participate in either activities or answering questions to expand their knowledge。 Besides that, though, the book does explore the various inventions that Ancient China was known for producing, some of their other festivals, exploring facets of their main religions and also giving information on the Chinese zodiac for those who may be interested。 Otherwise the writing is really simple and easy-to-understand while throwing in a bit of pop culture for children。 Unfortunately there is no pronunciation guide, though, to the names that are included in the book so some readers may find that a bit of a complicating mess, especially since various spellings and/or misspellings are used throughout the book。 At the same time the book is an ugly editorial mess。 Besides the prior mentioned name issues there are also repetitive sentences or partial sentences, a caption that isn't bold as it is too long, grammar issues and also the lack of proper capitalization throughout the book。 If you can overlook this lack of editorial process you will find this as a nice introduction to Ancient China and an interesting yet quick read。 Given the state of things I would call this book as a stepping stone at this point and one that would allow younger readers to see if they would love to learn more about Ancient China if they should be so interested。 **Please note I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review** 。。。more

Please note: I was given a copy of this book and have voluntarily decided to give it this honest review。I’m a big fan of the history books by Captivating History for adults and have read and reviewed Ancient Greece For Kids, another book in the series for children。 This book is also a paperback book, six inches wide, nine inches long, 75 pages, and only a quarter inch thick。 This includes an Introduction, ten chapters, and a Bibliography。 Most pages have one or two colored illustrations, maps, o Please note: I was given a copy of this book and have voluntarily decided to give it this honest review。I’m a big fan of the history books by Captivating History for adults and have read and reviewed Ancient Greece For Kids, another book in the series for children。 This book is also a paperback book, six inches wide, nine inches long, 75 pages, and only a quarter inch thick。 This includes an Introduction, ten chapters, and a Bibliography。 Most pages have one or two colored illustrations, maps, of photographs。 Several of the maps and pictures include the website where the information was taken from。 The book is easy to carry and would be the perfect book to take on the road, on vacation, or for when there’s nothing to do but wait。 A book offers a short, quick, and friendly way to pass the time。 This book tells the history of China from 5000 BCE to 220 AD。 It shows how China started as simple villages in the Stone Age, how in the Bronze Age they improved tools and weapons with those made of bronze。 They also developed a system of writing and started using copper coins。 China then advanced to the Iron Age, where they made more improved weapons as well as great advancements in music, poetry, philosophy。 In 221 BCE, Qin Shi Huang, united all the states of China into one, and becomes Emperor Qin, the first emperor in China。 Under his rule, the Great Wall of China is built, writing was standardized so everyone would read it, and simplified the system of weights and measurements。 The book tells of all the inventions that the ancient Chinese invented that are still used today。 Gunpowder, paper, printing, matches, abacus, calligraphy, fishing rods, and reels。 They invented ice cream and tea! There are festivals and holidays that we still celebrate today that were celebrated thousands of years ago! The book finishes up with a bibliography which lists of books and websites。 I would recommend this book since I found it interesting and was surprised to see all the things that the ancient Chinese invented that are still enjoyed today。 。。。more
